We are NEIGHBORS helping NEIGHBORS.  The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department is a 100% volunteer organization made up of men and women who come from all walks of life to provide firefighting and non-firefighting services.  Our members are accountants, recreation directors, students, housewives, well technicians, plumbers, truck drivers, lithographers and more.  We view our work as both challenging and rewarding and have a variety of opportunities for you to serve this department and our community.

FIREFIGHTING members are those persons who provide fire and rescue services to the people and property of the Town of Monroe.  There are two divisions under this classification both of which drill on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.

·    Senior Firefighters: who are 18 years of age and older.  Seniors are required to become firefighter 1 qualified.

·    Junior firefighters: who are between 16 & 18 years of age ~ they also hold a special junior drill on Sundays at 1:00 p.m.

NON-FIREFIGHTING members are those who assist the department in administrative and support functions.  They help us carry out our mission through the special skills and services that they provide.

·    Regular members: help with computer work, mechanical skills, fund raising and various other organizational items within the department.

·    Fire Police: maintain scene safety and provide traffic control operations to protect our firefighters at incident scenes.

·    Ladies Auxiliary: a branch off organization that is governed under its own regulations and guidelines, provide support with fundraising, refreshments at involved incidents and more.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES are based on years of service to the department as well as years as a voting member of the department.

·    Probationary Members: persons who are not yet full members, as they do not have the right to vote

·    Regular Members: 0-15 years of service to the department

·    Veteran Members: 15 years in the department with 10 as a voting member

·    Life Members: 25 years in the department with 18 as a voting member
