MEMBERSHIP
We are NEIGHBORS
helping NEIGHBORS. The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department is a 100%
volunteer organization made up of men and women who come from all
walks of life to provide firefighting and non-firefighting
services. Our members are accountants, recreation directors,
students, housewives, well technicians, plumbers, truck drivers,
lithographers and more. We view our work as both challenging and
rewarding and have a variety of opportunities for you to serve this
department and our community. FIREFIGHTING members are those persons who provide fire and rescue services to the people and property of the Town of Monroe. There are two divisions under this classification both of which drill on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
NON-FIREFIGHTING members are those who assist the department in administrative and support functions. They help us carry out our mission through the special skills and services that they provide.
MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES are based on years of service to the department as well as years as a voting member of the department.
SPECIAL NOTE: The Town of Monroe has a tax abatement program for our Firefighters, fire police, veteran and life members. Tax abatement is dependent on drill attendance and meeting attendance, call response and having a current physical.
HOW TO JOINNew members must complete an application and meet with a representative from the membership committee to discuss and review all department policies and regulations. A police background check is done as well as references contacted and information verified. Firefighters and Fire Police candidates must pass the Town’s physical.
PROBATIONARY MEMBERS Once accepted applicants shall be subject to serving a probationary period of twelve months. During the probationary period, applicants shall take due care in being as active as possible in the department and must meet a minimum set of requirements to come off of probation. One such requirement is completing a certified firefighter 1 program ~ that teaches the basics of firefighting.
