Fundraising

Many of you are often surprised to realize that the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, Inc. is comprised of 100% volunteers, just as it was when formed in 1923. While many surrounding emergency service organizations have been forced to supplement their volunteers with paid personnel, none of our members receive payment for their services; not even the Fire Chief. As a result of the dedication of our volunteer firefighters, we are proud to provide you with the best services possible, while also reducing your property taxes.

When an emergency call is received, our volunteer firefighters are alerted and immediately respond from their homes or work to the nearest fire station. Our volunteers responded to a record-level 600+ emergency calls last year ranging from structure fires to motor vehicle accidents to hazardous materials incidents, many of which occur in the middle of the night, on holidays or during hot summer days and snowy winter nights. Regardless of when your emergency arises, our volunteer firefighters are pleased to help in your time of need. To ensure that we are prepared to handle any emergency, our volunteers complete certified training courses, and freshen their skills through weekly training sessions. We also teach fire prevention in the schools and daycares, host an annual open house, visit disabled children in town, and participate in many other community and charitable events.

We view our work as both challenging and rewarding and we always welcome new members to join our diverse team.  We also have a need for non-firefighting support to help us carry out our mission, and would gladly accept any special services you may have to offer, such as computer or mechanical skills.

Another way to show your support is by participating in our annual fund drive. We rely significantly on your annual donation which directly benefits you, your family and your neighbors. We greatly appreciate any amount that your budget allows. In special appreciation of our Chief's Circle donors ($100+) and Captain's Circle donors ($50+), whose support is crucial to our success, we will proudly display your family or business name on our website and at our open house event. We also welcome your employer match donations. In the continued spirit of volunteerism, our fund drive is administered entirely by volunteers. No professional solicitors are used, which results in your entire tax-deductible donation reaching the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department.

Thank you for your support,

George W Lattanzi
Chief of Department
