Tanker Shuttle

Around 5:40 in the evening Newtown Fire requested Tanker 216 to the scene of a working house fire.  216 went en-route with 3 and was put to work right away.  In all 216 dropped 18,000 gallons of water to help in the extinguishment of the fire.

HazMat Situation

At 15:47 hours MFD was requested to respond to RT. 34  below the dam for the possible oil spill in the water.  R-220 arrived first to find a slight hydraulic fluid type sheen on the water.  Monroe and Stepney awaited the arrival of Stevenson units and the scene was turned over to them.  Unknown cause for the leakage

MVA off the Road

At 11:44 hours MFD was requested  to 555 Hammertown rd. for the MVA. Quint 200 arrived first to find a truck off the road into a stone wall. 200 cleared shortly and left the scene to Stevenson units.  This was the first of four calls today.  Monroe also did another accident and car fire with Stepney, and a primary furnace malfunction later on that evening

Brush Fire

At 11:18 hrs. units were dispatched to the corner of Spring Hill Rd. and Sherman Cir. for the brush fire.  201 was first arriving and found approx. a 100 x 40 section of the woods well involved.  201's crew went to work stopping the spread of the fire.  200 and 104 (Stepney) arrived a short time after and assisted 201 with extinguishment

Mutual Aid Brush Fire

Saturday came with a mutual dispatch to the Stepney district requested the Tanker for a fast moving brush fire in a non-hydrant area.  Shortly after, Stepney Fire Command requested an Engine to the scene, and E-201 went en-route.  Trumbull Fire sent 1 engine to the scene as well, while T-204 (Long Hill) and an Engine from Botsford provided Station coverage for Stepney.  

Busy Day

Today Monroe ran 3 primary and 3 secondary alarms.  The alarms consisted of a first due residential fire alarm, first due commercial fire alarm, then the Engine ran mutual aid to Stepney for 3 calls consisting of a gas leak investigation, motor vehicle accident, and a microwave fire.  Monroe finished out the day responding to a possible house fire.  First due Quint 200 reported smoke from a chimney and the alarm was recalled.

Engine Transfer to Shelton

Today Engine 201 transferred with a crew to Shelton Co. 5 to stand-by while they worked a house fire.  Monroe stood by for about 2 1/2 hours.  Derby and Nichols FD (Trumbull) also provided station coverage.  Check out www.firegroundimages.com for pictures from Shelton.

MVA Rollover + 3 More Primaries

Today Monroe ran four primaries consisting of 3 commercial fire alarms and one rollover.  The rollover resulted in the vehicle going off the road and down a 15 foot embankment.  All occupants escaped uninjured.  Crews stabilized the vehicle and awaited the wrecker.

Busy St. Patrick's Day

A busy St. Patrick's Day for Monroe, running six calls, five being primaries.  The day started off with a smoke investigation with Stepney, followed by a MVA, two residential fire alarms, and two outside fires.  Apparently our camera man is on spring break because we don't have any pictures!

Truck Vs. Pole

At 1430 hrs. Monroe was dispatched along with Stepney and EMS for a truck vs. pole.  120, 104, and 201 went enroute.  120 arrived to find a box truck that struck a pole.  120 found no hazards and minor injuries and held it to themselves.  See www.stepneyfire.com for pictures.

Outside Fire

At 1234 hrs. Monroe was dispatched to 21 Barton Rd. for the outside fire. 201, 200, and 101 went enroute and arrived to find a 10' circle burn pit with a small fire consisting of brush and hay bales.  Units on scene extinguished and took up shortly there after.

Roll Over MVA

At 0733 hrs. Monroe was dispatched along with Stepney to Judd Rd. near the town line for the motor vehicle rollover.  201 went enroute with 3 and arrived simultaneously with 104 to find a single vehicle on its roof with all occupants out.  104 secured all hazards, while 201 provided patient care.

At 1910 hrs. Monroe was dispatched to The Village Square Shopping Center at 401 Monroe Tpk for the car fire.  251 (Chief Davin) and 201 with 5 went enroute and arrived to find a well involved engine compartment fire.  201's crew made quick work of the fire and returned to service a short time later.  Chief Davin had the command.  Pictures to come.

MVA w/ Extrication

At 1405 hrs. Monroe was dispatched along with Stepney for the MVA with entrapment.  201 and 120 went enroute and arrived to find a two car "T-Bone" with minor entrapment.  201 assisted 120 with a door pop and provided patient care until the arrival of an AMR unit from Bridgeport

Car vs building

At 1132 hrs. Monroe was dispatched to what would be the first of 3 calls today.  Units were alerted to 508 Monroe Tpk, Brooks Pharmacy, for the car vs. building.  251 (Chief Davin), 2511 (Lt. G. Zaleta) and 201 with four went enroute and arrived to find a car had jumped the sidewalk and drove between the front entrance of the store and a support pillar.  Besides minor damage to the building and vehicle involved, no hazards or civilian injuries were found and the incident was held to 201.

At 22:46 hours Monroe Fire was alerted to Route 111 @ Church St for a one car MVA reported no injuries.  Chief 251 (Davin) arrived to find one car on top of a guardrail.  Engine 201 arrived shortly and waited the wrecker.

MVA Fluid Spill

At 03:21 hours Monroe fire was alerted to a motor vehicle accident off the road with fluids leaking IFO 884 Monroe Tpk.  Engine 201 arrived to find one SUV off the road on top of large rock leaking gasoline.  Crews notified DEP, and awaited the wrecker.

Car Fire
Monday, February 20, 2006

At 18:23 hours Monroe Fire was alerted to 144 Richards Dr for a report of multiple vehicles on fire with additional exposures.  Asst. Chief 253 (Lattanzi) arrived to find one vehicle fully involved in the driveway with a one vehicle exposure.  Engine 201 arrived shortly and stretched the 250 foot pre-connect (longer distance due to multiple vehicles in the driveway)  FF Chila and FF Catalano made quick work of the stubborn fire and had it knocked down within 3 minutes.  There efforts were hampered by a ruptured full fuel tank.

Car vs Tree

At 07:54hrs units were dispatched to the area of 278 Moose Hill Rd for a car into a tree. Monroe Asst. Chief 253 (Lattanzi) arrived first and reported a car into a tree with the vehicle smoking. E-101 & E-201 arrived and secured all hazards. The driver had a head injury, neck pain and was transported to Saint Vincent's Hospital.

Electrical Problem

Sunday Feb. 5th   Units were dispatched to 401 Monroe Tpke. the St. Vincent's medical building for the arcing power switch. This brought E-201, E-204, and Q-200 to the scene.  201's crew went interior to find a power switch that shorted out.  Interior crews secured  all hazards and cleared.  253 (Asst. Chief Lattanzi) had the command.

4 Car MVA
Tuesday, January 31, 2006

At 19:01 hours units were dispatched to IFO 663 Monroe Tpke. for the head-on MVA. 251 (Chief Davin) and E-201 went en-route, 251 arrived shortly to find a 4 car MVA not head-on. E-201 arrived, secured all hazards and assisted EMS with patient car. Units operated on scene for 11 minutes. This was Monroe's third primary for the day.
