Smoke Investigation & Possible Structure Fire

Monroe fire was alerted at 08:34 hours to a smoke condition is the building at 477 Monroe Tpk (Camaro Mini Mart).  Units on scene investigated to find the source to by a light ballast shorting out. 

Later in the afternoon units were alerted on automatic mutual aid to 630 Main St (Sal's Pizza Complex) for reported commercial structure fire.  Engines 201, 204 and Quint 200 responded to assist Stepney.  200 arrived as the first due truck and assisted Stepney with the investigation revealing a problem in the boiler room.

At 20:00 hours Monroe fire was alerted to a possible Garage Fire at 16 Deer River Lane.  First Arriving Quint 200 wrapped the mailbox and laid out approx. 500 feet of LDH down the long driveway reporting smoke showing from the garage.  The Quint's crew investigated to find a Dodge Viper which had caught fire inside the garage and has been primarily extinguished by the homeowner and PD on scene utilizing two fire extinguishers.  Once the Engine arrived crews pushed the vehicle out of the garage, checked for extension and ventilated the structure.  The Fire Marshall Division conducted an investigation following the fire.

M.V.A Rollover

On Tuesday, August 15 Monroe fire was alerted to a reported motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle which had rolled over.  Engine 201 arrived to find one vehicle rolled over.  Investigation revealed all occupants out of the vehicle.  Crews mitigated all hazards and awaited the up righting of the vehicle.

At 15:03 hours Monroe Fire was requested to assist Stepney with a working commercial structure fire. Units were alerted to Meineke Muffler for a reported structure fire. First arriving units encountered heavy fire throughout the 3 garages and extending into the offices. Engines 101, 104, 201, 204, Truck 100, Quint 200, Rescues 120 and 220, Chiefs 151, 152, and 253 responded to the scene. Monroe units assisted with extinguishment utilizing two 2 1/2" lines and one 1 3/4" line. Monroe units also assisted with roof ventilation and mop up. Monroe EMS stationed a rig on scene, while Long Hill, White Hills, and Botsford provided station coverage. FM's 1, 3, and 5 investigated the scene afterwards. Click here for the slideshow (6 MB).

At 16:44 hours a civilian walked up to the FD reporting a vehicle rolled over with possible entrapment.  Engine 201 went enroute immediately with three and informed dispatch of the incident.  Units arrived on scene to find an occupant exiting the vehicle.  Units assisted with the removal and provided EMS care until the arrival of the ambulance.  Once the vehicle was rights, crews applied speedi-dry to a minor fluid spill

Oven Fire & M.V.A

At 19:15 hours with the Carnival well under way, Monroe Fire was dispatched to a reported oven fire at 71 Far Horizon Drive.  Engine 201 as the 1st due engine, Engine 204 as the 2nd due, Quint 200 as the 1st due truck, and special called R-120 as the first due special service went enroute with a total 15 men.  Engine 201 arrived to find a small fire in the oven.  Lt. Holt (257) took the command..  The engine crew extinguished the remaining fire with a water can and checked for extension.  With no signs of extension, command held the assignment to the Engine and Quint and returned all units.  Units were back in service within 20 minutes.  Investigation with the homeowner revealed that 3 paper dolls and a plastic cutting board were in the oven prior to ignition.
Around 21:30 hours the alarm sounded for a reported vehicle accident, rollover with fluid spill.  The original location came in as Hammertown @ High Ridge, noting these two roads are on opposite sides of the town, units notified dispatch who came back with a corrected address of Hammertown @ High Bridge.  Units responded and found the accident at Hammertown @ High Rock.  Investigation revealed no need for fire, thus the Engine and the Rescue went back in service.  This was the fifth call of the day.

At 08:17 hours Monroe Fire was dispatched automatic aid to Stepney for a reported person who had fallen into a basement in a house under construction.  R-120 and E-104 (Stepney) arrived first to find a male who had fallen over 8 feet into a basement with significant injuries.  As units went to work Quint-200 arrived and stood by while units worked to extricate the victim.  Stepney Firefighters removed the victim with a stokes basket to waiting B.L.S. ambulance w/ A.L.S. intercept vehicle.  E-201 was returned once the extrication was complete.

July 3 Declared Automatic Alarm Day by Monroe Fire

It al started around 06:45 hours when Monroe Fire was dispatched to an automatic alarm at hidden knolls circle.  From there on Monroe fire ran 5 more primary automatic alarms, and 1 mutual aid automatic alarm.  Throughout this day, Squad 230 was manned with 3 personnel mapping hydrants throughout the town.

Large Vehicle Rollover

At 13:41 hours, Monroe Fire was dispatched to the area of Garder Road near the landfill for a reported vehicle rollover with a trapped occupant.  E-201 arrived first due to find a tri-axle dump rolled on its side.  Fire Department personnel assisted the occupant out of the vehicle to awaiting EMS crews.  Units remained on scene until two heavy duty wreckers removed the truck.  CT-D.E.P also responded due to a spill.

Kitchen Fire

After a few uneventful weeks of the normal automatic alarms and MVA's, Monroe Fire was alerted second due to 10 Oak Ridge Road for the reported house on fire.  Reports from officers on scene reported a kitchen fire with some extension.  E-101 and T-100 (Stepney) arrived first to find extension into the cabinets and microwave.  E-201 stood fast on scene while Stepney units worked.  Monroe also ran two additional primaries and one additional mutual aid call for the day
