ladder in the driveway. 200's crew split up and
stretched an additional line to the garage and put the
ladder pipe into operation. Other members arriving on
scene began a primary search of the residence, while E-101
pumped their 1,000 gallons of tank water into E-201.
Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire, however, they
quickly ran low on water, and had to back-out for safety
concerns. Shortly after, the roof and second floor
collapsed and units changed to an aggressive exterior
attack. Tankers from
Botsford,
Sandy Hook,
Stevenson,
White Hills,
Oxford, Quaker Farms, Monroe, and Huntington
began a shuttle operation utilizing two portable ponds
staged at the next intersection with E-102 pumping a 5" LDH
and 3" supply line to the ladder. Units brought the
blaze under control within 90 minutes and remained on scene
for an extended period overhauling and assisting the Monroe
and CT State Fire Marshals. Mutual aid from
Long Hill,
Newtown Hook &
Ladder, Huntington,
and Derby staffed Monroe
Stations while units operated. The cause is still
under investigation as of this writing. Chief 152
(Rose, Stepney)
had command. |

Outside/Shed Fire
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 |
|
At 05:46 hours while operating
at the structure fire below, Dispatch advised coverage units
of a reported fire near 639 Wheeler Road. Dispatch
advised White Hills E-53, Long Hill E-206, and the Oxford
engine that PD was reporting an outside fire. E-53
arrived first due and upgraded the assignment to a structure
fire. E-53 stretched lines while Oxford supplied with
their tank water. E-206 arrived and provided manpower
for the operation. Soon after T-316 and T-216 arrived
to begin a tanker shuttle operation due to a lack of
hydrants in the area, while E-201 was released from the
first fire to provide a tanker fill site. T-59 (White
Hills) and T-59 (Botsford) also responded to assist with the
tanker shuttle. Investigation revealed a large wood
pile on fire, with extension to an outside shed type
structure. Units made a hard knock on the fire, while
the homeowner performed overhaul with heavy machinery.
Thanks to all the Mutual Aid companies who assisted during
this time. |
