Smoke Condition2
Tuesday, February 5, 2008
At 04:33 hours Monroe Fire was dispatched to 375 Fan Hill Road, Chalk Hill Middle School for the reported commercial fire alarm.  First in Q-200 / 252 (Solek) reported a 2 story masonry educational building with nothing showing.  Q-200's crew went inside to investigate and noted the alarm panel showing an activation on the #2 floor.  The crew investigated with the building engineer and found a moderate smoke condition in the second floor electrical closet and notified command who requested the 2nd due company to the scene.  Interior units ventilated the room and checked for extension with the TIC and searched for the source.  Units attributed the smoke to a blown breaker and had the school system notify the electrician.   At 12:41 hours units were requested back to the building for an alarm and the building engineer met the crew at the door reporting smoke on the second floor again.  The panel has been repaired and being reenergized when breakers blew again causing the smoke condition.  Units left the scene in care of FM-1.

 Fully Involved Fire
Monday, January 28, 2008
At 09:52 hours Monroe Fire was alerted to the house on fire at 62 Hunter Ridge Road.  Engine 201 arrived first reporting a 2 story ordinary construction structure with heavy fire from the #2 floor and the roof and requested a second alarm and mutual aid tankers to the scene.  E-201 quickly deployed a 2 1/2 inch line through the front door to begin to knock the fire down.  Seconds later, Q-200 arrived second due and placed the ladder in the driveway.  200's crew split up and stretched an additional line to the garage and put the ladder pipe into operation.  Other members arriving on scene began a primary search of the residence, while E-101 pumped their 1,000 gallons of tank water into E-201.  Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire, however, they quickly ran low on water, and had to back-out for safety concerns.  Shortly after, the roof and second floor collapsed and units changed to an aggressive exterior attack.  Tankers from Botsford, Sandy Hook, Stevenson, White Hills, Oxford, Quaker Farms, Monroe, and Huntington began a shuttle operation utilizing two portable ponds staged at the next intersection with E-102 pumping a 5" LDH and 3" supply line to the ladder.  Units brought the blaze under control within 90 minutes and remained on scene for an extended period overhauling and assisting the Monroe and CT State Fire Marshals.  Mutual aid from Long Hill, Newtown Hook & Ladder, Huntington, and Derby staffed Monroe Stations while units operated.  The cause is still under investigation as of this writing.  Chief 152 (Rose, Stepney) had command.
